| Thallus to 8 cm wide, leaden grey to yellowish grey, rarely bluish black. Lobes 1–7 mm wide, broadly cuneate to flabellate, adjacent or imbricate, rarely somewhat discrete, convex or flat, rarely concave, variously notched or incised, lobulate, not or only sparsely branched; apices round with deflexed margins. Upper surface epruinose, without isidia but often with small, round accessory lobules. Lower surface pale to almost black. Rhizines pale to black, sometimes projecting beyond lobe margins. Apothecia usually present, to 5 mm wide, pale yellowish to black. Ascospores fusiform to ellipsoidal, 7–14 × 3–5 µm. | ||
| Extends from Darwin, N.T., S to Melbourne, Vic., and in W.A. and Tas. Widely distributed in tropical and subtropical parts of the world. Grows on bark and wood of various trees in rainforest, mangrove communities and sclerophyllous forest. Also on siliceous rocks in eucalypt woodland and open grassland. | ||
